Shelter Diversion

The Shelter Diversion program helps youth avoid the emergency shelter system by finding them safe and appropriate alternatives.

What is the Shelter Diversion program?

Diversion is not saying “no” to sheltering people that have exhausted all of their alternative housing options. Diversion works to prevent people from accessing emergency shelter and finding alternative safe & appropriate options. Accessing other housing options ensures shelter beds are used as a resource only when absolutely necessary.

Who Can Access Shelter Diversion?

Youth between the ages of 16-24 throughout the Niagara Region can explore their housing options in hopes of avoiding emergency shelters.

What People Are Saying
  • The budgeting program is a great for helping people plan a budget for when they are living on their own. They take the time to listen to what kinds of things people need to put in a budget, and they explain how to spend within a specific budget, and save money by using coupons. They also showed us how to save for college! These guys are perfect.
